You Know? John was the first child ever born to a President-elect. John was delivered by cesarean section

the months go on. George (magazine) Cover of inaugural issue of GeorgeGeorge was a glossy politics-as-lifestyle
monthly magazine co- founded by John F. Kennedy, Jr. and Michael Berman with publisher Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. in New
York City in September, 1995. Its tagline was "Not Just Politics as Usual." The debut issue featured a cover which
received a great deal of attention for its photograph of Cindy Crawford dressed as George Washington. George departed
from the format of traditional political publications, whose audience was made up primarily of people in or around the political
world. The general template for George was similar to magazines such as Esquire or Vanity Fair. The consistent underlying
theme was to marry the themes of celebrity and media with the subject of politics in such a way that the general public would
find political news and discourse about politics more interesting to read. When it first appeared, George attracted
great interest, and for a brief period had the largest circulation of any political magazine in the nation, partly due to
the celebrity status of Kennedy, but it soon began losing money. Kennedy later complained that the magazine was not taken
seriously in the publishing world. George earned infamy in the conspiracy cyberculture, when an article slated to
run in the October 1998 "Conspiracy Issue" on the top conspiracy writers was killed at the last minute by George editors.
Titled "Princes of Paranoia," it would have highlighted writers and websites that were popular in the field of conspiracy
theory and given their work exposure to a wider audience. After Kennedy's death in a plane crash in 1999, Frank Lalli
become editor-in-chief. In 2001, George was terminated by Hachette Filipacchi due to disappointing advertising revenues. Critics
called George "the political magazine for people who don't understand politics", assailing it for "stripping any and all discussion
of political issues from its coverage of politics". In a feature in its final issue, Spy magazine asserted that the magazine's
premise was flawed; there was no real convergence of politics and celebrity lifestyles. On October 11, 2005, Harvard
University, via their Kennedy School of Government, held a panel discussion entitled "Not Just Politics as Usual", which commemorated
the tenth anniversary of the magazine's launch. The panel was moderated by Tom Brokaw and featured appearances by other journalists.

reading an issue of George. In an unexplored plot point of the pilot episode of The West Wing, the 'current' issue of
George features fictional Deputy Chief-of-Staff Josh Lyman on the cover. You can see the magazine on his desk during his character

Self-Defence in Contemporary International Law (The Carolina - drawing in a contemporary newspaper) On June
1st, 2002, the President of the Republic of the United States of America announced to the graduating class of the United States
Military Academy at West Point, and to the world at large, that his Government is determined to guarantee the safety of America
and that it is determined to wage preventive wars to do so if necessary[2]. The following National Security Strategy released
in September 2002 reflected this change of policy[3]. It went from deterrence and containment to first strike against rogue
States and terrorists. Its chapter V stipulates that this is rooted in the changes of circumstances, mainly that terrorists
and rogue States will not be deterred from using weapons of mass destruction. Therefore, it argues that the United States
can rest upon a long-held option of pre-emptive action to counter a threat to national security. In fact, chapter V goes as
far as to say that this option has long been recognised under international law and that the United States need not suffer
injury before they can take action to defend themselves[4]. However, the legal basis for such a bold policy has not
been clearly stated by the United States’ government. And of what has been stated, there has been a very one-sided version
of the applicable international law of the use of force prior to the suffering of an armed attack. While the Administration
has claim high and mighty its right to use force pre-emptively, most scholars have disputed this notion and minimized the
reach of the custom that is currently recognised in international law. While a history of the use of force has existed for
centuries, the right of self-defence under the Charter of the United Nations does not support a broad right of pre-emptive
actions. The right of self-defence has always been recognised, whether in municipal or international laws. But the
right to anticipatory self-defence has not been expressively incorporated. Indeed, the Charter of the United Nations makes
a very clear point of trying to limit the right to use force to two instances: self-defence, individual and collective after
an armed attack under article 51[5], and collective measures to restore international peace and security under article 42[6].
Nonetheless, some States have indeed maintained that there remain within the right of self-defence a right to prevent
an armed attack from occurring by using anticipatory self-defence. The United States are one such country, and it is the Caroline
incident with the United Kingdom in 1837 that gave rise to a formal interpretation in international of what anticipatory self-defence
consist. From this case and its subsequent application, the United States’ government bases it new “Bush
Doctrine”. However, the interpretation of the Caroline incident today, even if international law had not changed since,
remains to be determined. Furthermore, the application of the Caroline incident in contemporary international law after the
adoption and application of the Charter of the United Nations may also very well not be possible. To determine the
validity of the proposed Bush Doctrine, one must therefore review the doctrine of anticipatory self-defence and examine the
application from the Caroline incident and it subsequent interpretation. This is what this article will do. I will
first look at the facts of the Caroline incident of 1837 and the legal conclusions applicable in international law as determined
at the time by the parties concerned. I will then analyse the effects on this concept by the League of Nations and
the Organisation of the United Nations. I will finally examine the contemporary development and the application of
the doctrine to the cases created by the actions of the United States in the past two years. **The affair of the Caroline
and the McLeod Case** **My name is Caroline E. Kennedy, Jr. and Kirk McLoed of Seven Nations recorded songs SEEDS OF LIFE

which explains the POTUS REPORT from Skolnick Report.** The Caroline incident concerns a steamboat bearing that name
used for revolutionary purposes in the rebellion of Upper Canada, a Province of the Dominion of Great Britain ; nowadays the
Province of Ontario, Canada. The rebellion of 1837 was rooted in the political system of cronyism that pervaded colonial politics
in the British colonies of the Canadas, both Lower and Upper. It flared because of insensitivities of the British authorities
towards the complaints of the inhabitants of the Canada and the confrontationist attitude of the Crown[7]. While much have
been made of the democratic and nationalistic issues of the Quebeckers, the rebellion had more to do with a non-representative
system and underlying patronage. The rebellion of Lower Canada was over by the end of the summer and that of Upper Canada
was in disarray by December 1837.At that time, the remnants of the rebels fled to the United States where they tried to raise
support for further continuation of the rebellion in Buffalo (New York). This presence and threat caused to international
peace between Great Britain and the United States was known to the American authorities. Instructions were issued to the districts
attorneys of Vermont, Michigan and New York stating the President’s intention to respect its international obligations
and abstaining from any intervention in the domestic affairs of another nation[8]. On December 13, 1837 the rebel
MacKenzie issued a proclamation for rebellion and recruited American help for the invasion of Upper Canada. A headquarter
was set up on Navy island, a small island part of British territory across the Niagara River where the shores between Canada
and the United States are at a very close point. These movements created enough attention on the British side of the river
as to have the Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada send a message to the Governor of the State of New York to inform him of
the situation. No answer came back. Between the 13th and the 28th of December, 1837, up to 300 men under the leadership of
an appointed an American ‘general’ named Van Rausselear were armed and joined the headquarters of the Canadian
rebels on Navy Island[9]. By the night of December 29, 1837, this force was seen growing to 1000 armed men. Reinforcements
were made through constant movements from the American shore to Navy Island[10], between three in the afternoon and dusk[11].
Seeing the use made of the ship, Colonel Allan Napier McNab, the officer commanding the British forces at Chippewa,
judged that the destruction of the Caroline would prevent further reinforcements to Navy Island and deprive the rebels of
their mean of invasion. He therefore ordered an expedition to be sent out for this purpose. According to the master of the
Caroline, the ship was docked and moored at Fort Schlosser for the night with ten officers and crew on board, as well as twenty-three
Americans who asked to be permitted to spend the night as they could not found lodging at the tavern near by. Around midnight,
a force of 70 to 80 from several small boats boarded the Caroline and commenced warfare with muskets, swords and cutlasses.
The vessel was abandoned by all hands, the only efforts of its crew being to flee. Thus captured, the vessel was left to the
possession of the British forces that cut her loose, towed her into the current of the river, set her on fire and let her
descend the current towards the Niagara Falls, where she was destroyed[12]. Twelve persons were initially said to have been
killed or disappeared. As was established after investigations, it is a force of 45 men in 5 boats under the command
of Commander Andrew Drew (Royal Navy), acting upon orders of Colonel McNab, that boarded, set fire to and let the ship descend
adrift[13]. The place where the Caroline was moored was at Schlosser, a small landing point in the State of New York less
than 5 kilometres upstream from the Niagara Falls, rather than Fort Schlosser, an old and abandoned American fort of the War
of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain which was higher upstream from the falls. Contrary to the opinions
expressed at first, it is not 12 persons that died during that night, but two: Amos Durfee, killed on the docks by a bullet
in the head, and a cabin boy known as “Little Billy”, shot while trying to escape the Caroline. Two prisoners
were made: an American citizen of 19 years old and a Canadian fugitive. Both were let go: the American with enough money to
pay for the ferry back to the United States and the Canadian after spending some time in the guard room at Chippewa[14]. On
January 5, 1838, President Van Buren sent a message to Congress to ask for full power to prevent injuries being inflicted
upon neighbouring nations by unlawful acts of American citizens or persons within the territories of the United States and
General Scott was sent to the frontier with letters to the Governors of New York and Vermont, calling the militias[15]. The
rebels were dispersed, but some continued the struggle within secret societies called Hunters’ Lodges. This led to another
short-lived rebellion in Canada in 1838, but it was harshly and swiftly dealt with. In Canada, the impact of these rebellions
was the Act of the Union of both Canadas into a single province of the Dominion, attempting to assimilate French-Canadian
to diminish the likelihood of another attempt. The impact on the relations of the United States and the British Crown was
one where a true settlement of the North-eastern boundary had to be reached if war was to be averted[16]. While the facts
of the incident could be made light of were it not for the death of two persons, they are nonetheless of much importance as
the whole doctrine of anticipatory self-defence rest upon them. The legal argument concerning the case started with
the note sent on January 5, 1838 by the American Secretary of State Forsyth to the British Minister at Washington, Fox, expressing
surprise and regret for this incident and warning that this incident would be made the subject of a demand for redress. Mr.
Fox replied by letter on February 6, 1838 and stated three defences for the actions of the British forces, namely: 1) the
piratical nature of the vessel, 2) the fact that the ordinary laws of the United States were not being enforced at the time,
and were in fact overtly overborne by the rebels and 3) self-defence and self-preservation[17]. This curt response to the
American government marked an attitude of not taking the matter too seriously by the British Authorities. This exchange prompted
the report of the Law Officers, but did not move the British Authorities to recognise any wrong-doing. This being judged unsatisfactory
by the American government, the matter was brought up by the American ambassador in London, Stevenson, to the British Foreign
Secretary, Lord Palmerston, who promised to look into the matter. The matter was indeed looked upon once more by the Law Officers.
But their conclusion of March 25, 1838 and added to their report of February 21, 1838, was while the incident was regrettable,
they felt that the actions of the British Authorities were absolutely necessary for the future and not retaliation for the
past. As a result, they believed that the conduct of the British force had been, under the circumstances, justifiable by the
Law of Nations. Arguments and reminders were made back and forth during the ensuing period, but none led to a satisfactory
settlement of the question. Meanwhile, the relations between the two nations remained difficult. The local population
at Buffalo seemed inclined toward retaliation and conflict was quite possible. Also, British nationals in the United States
suspected of having taken part in the events of the Caroline were made to stand Juridical Examination on charges of participating
in the attack. A man named Christie was arrested those charges on August 23, 1838[18]. The Queen’s Advocate, seized
of the case, counselled the British Minister in Washington, Fox, in a dispatch dated November 6, 1838, that such an arrest
cannot hold due to the fact that the actions that Mr. Christie is accused of are acts of public persons obeying the orders
of superior authorities. Therefore, Mr. Christie could not be held accountable for theses acts even if he had taken part in
them[19]. Following this, a Canadian deputy sheriff named Alexander McLeod boasted of his part in the events of the
Caroline during a passage through Lewiston, New York, on November 12, 1840. Acting on his ill-advised words, the American
authorities arrested him immediately on charges of the murder of Amos Durfee and arson in connection of the burning of the
Caroline. On December 13, 1840, Fox addressed a note to Forsyth taking again the principles laid in the Christie case
and by which public persons could not be held accountable for acts of governments. Forsyth replied that the arrest of McLeod
was made by the authorities of the State of New York and therefore infringement by the Federal government in the state’s

a farmer from upstate New York who was a veteran of the War of 1812. He started telling people in 1831 that the Biblical prophecies
described in Revelation had yet to transpire. And if that wasn't enough, he revealed that they were about to. Basically,
Miller singlehandedly revived the "End Is Near" mania. Lots of other religious figures began making similar apocalyptic claims.
Miller drew a large following, and in 1840, he finally announced a specific range of dates for the second coming of Jesus
Christ. He said it would occur sometime between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844. When March 22, 1844 arrived without
any perceptible return of Christ, it was kind of a problem for Miller. Thousands of followers had given away their possessions
in anticipation of the big day. Not good. But then one of Miller's followers realized that his calculations had been off by
one year, because he neglected to count the BC to AD rollover. So he revised the date to October 22 and tried again. In
October, of course, the same damn thing happened. Except this time, there weren't any arithmetic errors to blame. Upwards
of 100,000 Millerites had expected to finally meet God Jr. *****NOTES JOHN F. KENNEDY, JR. Many of them
dressed in white robes and climbed up on roofs and hilltops. But the chosen night came and went. The milestone would come
to be known as the Great Disappointment of 1844. According to one believer: "The world made merry over the old Prophet's
predicament. The taunts and jeers of the 'scoffers' were well-nigh unbearable." Nevertheless, Miller hung tough. The following
month, he expressed his never-say-die attitude in a letter: Although I have been twice disappointed, I am not
yet cast down or discouraged ... My hope in the coming of Christ is as strong as ever. I have done only what after years of
sober consideration I felt a solemn duty to do ... I have fixed my mind upon another time, and here I mean to stand until
God gives me more light. And that is Today, TODAY, and TODAY, until He comes, and I see HIM for whom my soul yearns. William
Miller finally did see "HIM" when he died on December 20, 1849. Almost overnight, the remnants of his church splintered over
doctrinal differences. This fragmentation ultimately gave rise to a variety of denominations, including the Jehovah Witnesses
and the Seventh-Day Adventists. In the 20th century, an offshoot of the Seventh-Day Adventists updated Miller's prophecy
by claiming a Biblical ETA of April 22, 1959. (Yahweh's bastard child was a no-show yet again.) This group,
calling itself the Davidian Seventh-day Adventists, broke into two pieces in the resulting schism. One product of this fission
decided to call themselves the Branch Davidians. timeline 1 Jan 1843 William Miller commits to a range
of dates for the Second Coming: "I am fully conviced that somewhere between March 21st, 1843 and March 21st, 1844,
according to the Jewish mode of time computation, Christ will come." 21 Mar 1844 Contrary to William Miller's prediction,
Jesus misses His deadline for returning to Earth. Shortly thereafter, Miller recalculates and comes up with October 22, 1844.
22 Oct 1844 The followers of William Miller experience the Great Disappointment when Jesus apparently fails to make
His second scheduled appearance. 20 Dec 1849 William Miller dies.

Shakers (The United Society of Believers) Founder: Ann Lee Date of Birth: February 29, 1736 Birth
Place: Manchester, England Year Founded: 1772 History: The Shakers are one of the few success stories
resulting from the proliferation of communitarian and millenarian groups in eighteenth and nineteeenth century Europe and
America. They splintered from a Quaker community in Manchester, England (Gidley and Bowles 1990). James Wardley, its preacher,
had absorbed the teachings of the millenial French Prophets and his community began to evolve around 1746 (Melton 1992). The
members were known as the Shaking Quakers and were viewed as radical for their communion with the spirits of the dead and
impassioned shaking that would occur at their services (Horgan, 1982; Robinson 1975). As radicals, all the members were harrassed,
including a young married woman named Ann Lee. Fervent from a young age, Ann had a revelation during a long imprisonment that
she was the Second Coming of Christ, the vital female component of God the Father-Mother (Bainbridge 1997; Gidley and Bowles
1990; Horgan 1982; Robinson 1975). The vision had a great impact on the congregation and "Mother" Ann became the official
leader of the group in 1772. With a distinctly new version of the Second Coming and other beliefs contradictory to mainstream
Christian ideology, it was at this juncture that the Shaking Quakers became known as the Shakers (Gidley and Bowles 1990).
These radical views increased the Shakers' persecution and a small group composed of her brother, niece, husband and five
others followed Mother Ann's vision of a holy sanctuary in the New World to New York in May,1774 (Bainbridge 1997; Horgan
1982; Robinson 1975). They struggled for five years to survive, gaining few converts, on a communal farm in Watervliet, NY
(Bainbridge 1997; Robinson 1975). During this period they faced great persecution for being both English and pacifistic in
the middle of the Revolutionary War (Horgan 1982). The turning point was a wave of religious revivalism called the
New Light Stir that swept across New England between 1776 and 1783 (Gidley and Bowles 1990), bringing in new converts from
other millenial groups and allowing the Shakers to safely proselytize. In 1779 Joseph Meacham and his followers joined the
Shakers, becoming their first converts (Gidley and Bowles 1990). The Shaker mission in New England ended in 1784 -- the same
year as Mother Ann's death (Gidley and Bowles 1990; Horgan 1982; Humez 1993) -- though they later missioned in Kentucky and
Ohio during the Kentucky Revival of 1797-1805. Most of this expansion happened under Joseph Meacham's leadership, which began
with Father John Whittaker's death in 1787. Meacham organized the communities and made New Lebanon, NY the Parent Ministry
from which came both spiritual and commercial leadership (Horgan 1982; Melton 1992). These industries would become both the
sustaining income for the Shakers and a form of recruiting and publicity as their simple, functional furniture designs, music
and dancing, and self-published books became popular in secular culture (Andrews 1972; Morse 1987). By the mid-1800's they
reached their peak membership and peak popularity, becoming a sort of tourist attraction that outsiders (known as The World's
People) could observe in their communities on Saturday evenings (Morse 1987; Gifford 1989). The Civil War ended the
American fascination with the many millenarian, communitarian and utopian social experiments of the early nineteenth century
and replaced it with an emphasis on class struggle in an increasingly industrial and urban society (Horgan 1982). Industrialization
made Shaker crafts obsolete and depleted even further the attraction of a way of life already made less tasteful by the emphasis
on celibacy and severe simplicity (Gidley and Bowles 1990; Horgan 1982; Robinson 1975). Between this decline in attraction
and the society's inability to create a new generation of believers, the communities steadily declined and disbanded. Little
is known of the 20th Century Shakers besides their decline because they closed even their journals -- previously released
in order to further spread first person witness of Shaker beliefs -- to the outside world in the first decades of this century
(Stein 1992). In 1965 this deterioration was speeded by a group decision to admit no new members (Melton 1992). Today only
the Canterbury, New Hampshire, and Sabbath Day Lake, Maine, communities remain and even then the members live on small plots
of the properties while the rest is devoted to historic preservation and museums like those found at Pleasant Hill, KY , and
South Union, KY (Gidley and Bowles 1990; Melton 1992). The Sabbath Day Lake group did recently admit three new members but
they weren't recognized by the other remaining original members (Melton 1992). Sacred or Revered Texts: Composed
originally of mainly illiterate factory workers, the Shakers did not rely heavily on written doctrines and preferred first-person
religious experiences. They did draw guidance from the Bible; the personal writings of Ann Lee (known as Mother's Wisdom )
and other spiritual leaders like Joseph Meacham; the series of Testimonies books; and other Shaker-produced journals and books
testifying about the Shaker experience from a first-person point-of-view. Cult or Sect: Negative sentiments are typically

small sections of the Canterbury, New Hampshire and Sabbath Day Lake, ME community. At their peak membership between 1830

Beliefs of the Group Finding one complete summary of Shaker beliefs all in one source is very difficult. This is partly
due to their self-isolation in this century. The maintenance of a non-literary tradition until well into the group's institutionalization
is another cause. The Shakers' own evolution as a group is the biggest reason, though. In all the books cited below, the group
changes its philosophy with each new set of leaders and adjusts the theology accordingly. The best-known Shaker beliefs
are an emphasis on celibacy and simplicity in their daily lives. These beliefs were key to Shaker theology and lifestyle in
the sense that they were seen as vital to the building of a truly selfless and spiritual community (Horgan 1982; Humez 1993;
Robinson 1975). In fact, celibacy was introduced into the group's belief system when Mother Ann first assumed control of the
Shaking Quakers in England (Melton 1992). While the rumor that she turned to celibacy and rejected even marital sex out of
torment for the deaths of her four children is probably true (Bainbridge 1997; Horgan 1982; Humez 1993), Mother Ann did help
develop a complex theology to support the necessity of this concept. Sexual intercourse was solely given to humans for reproduction
and our inability to use it only for this purpose made us base and animal-like. Celibacy was a "cross one elected to bear
to aspire to the spirituality forfeited by Adam and Eve" in favor of carnality. God was equated with spiritual growth while
Adam was associated with humanity's less pure, physical nature (Horgan 1982; Robinson 1975). This freedom from their contemporary
identity as subservient wives and mothers allowed women to take a more equal stance with the men in the Society (Horgan 1982;
Humez 1993). Women and men were to address each other as "Sister" or "Brother" and even married couples who converted together
were to act upon this perfect love and be celibate. Women were also the main source of the ecstatic experiences and divine
signs that the Shakers considered a vital part of the relationship with God, thus playing a large part in the spirituality
of the community (Humez 1993). During the society's later decline it would be upheld by the sole leadership of women while
the number of male members dwindled (Stein 1992). Celibacy was also part of the Shaker's efforts to build a more unified
community by suppressing all individuality. At the core of this concept was the ideal of simplicity in all things -- dress,
food and living arrangements. Thus everyone wore old-fashioned clothes of similar plain cut, women kept their hair severely
simple, and (in most communities) the two genders lived in large dormitories (Gifford 1989). Though they expressed an unspoken
love of beauty in their music and the quality of their furniture, neither was created solely for beauty (Andrews 1972). The
music was used to reinforce the importance of God over the individual and the furniture was designed to be functional and
non-intrusive, so as not to detract from the work or worship occurring in the rooms containing those furnishings (Stein 1992).
As a millenarian, communitarian Christian sect with an unique belief in gender duality/equality, the United Society
of Believers was much more complex than it seemed. At the center of all their beliefs was the idea of God not as the traditional
Christian trinity but as duality, both male and female. Mother Ann Lee was the Second Coming of Christ, Appearing as Female
(Horgan 1982; Humez 1993), embodying the loving spirit called the Holy Spirit by other denominations (Stein 1992). Therefore
they believed that the new millenium had already begun in 1747 with the beginning of the Wardleys' ministry (Melton 1992).
These two beliefs underlay their infrastructure of dual leadership begun first with Mother Ann and John Whittaker and then
reinstated later with Father Jospeh Meacham and Mother Lucy Wright leading the genders together (Horgan 1982; Humez 1993;
Robinson 1975). They were also the other main justification of celibacy within the sect. While being communitarian
and even millenarian was becoming quite common in late eighteenth through mid-nineteenth century England and America, it was
the behavior that gave the Shakers their name that both set them apart and earned them great persecution at the hands of pre-existing
Christianity (Bainbridge 1997; Horgan 1982; Robinson 1975). Their meeting houses were mostly open space with an altar in the
middle so that the initially spontaneous and later highly ritualized ecstatic experiences and dancing could be performed during
worship services (Gifford 1989; Horgan 1982; Morse 1987). Such excessive behavior was frowned upon by other Christian denominations
and was a large part of the Shakers' radical reputation. With this persecution by other Christians, they would even come to
develop anti-"Middle Ages church" views and incorporate those beliefs into the overall Shaker ideology to the point that mainstream
Christianity would be referred to in terms of papacy and the Antichrist (Horgan 1982; Robinson 1975). The Antichrist doctrines
began with the third Shaker leader, Joseph Meacham, who outlined four dispensations for salvation based on obedience (Stein
1992). The "first light of salvation" was God's promises to the patriarchs, procured by obedience illustrated through circumcision.
The second dispensation was the law of Moses and it was gained through obedience to those laws. Christ's first appearance
as man was the third dispensation, blessing those who followed the way of the cross. The fourth and final dispensation would
be when God would come to earth to build the new kingdom and destroy the Antichrist (Stein 1992). As these views became
known to the mainstream culture towards the end of the 19th century, they were often misinterpreted and lead to even greater
persecution by the press and mainstream religion (Stein 1992). Increasingly isolationist, the Shakers retreated from the world
completely in 1965 (Stein 1992). This very exclusivity would be the final key to their demise as a religious movement (Gidley

originated in Manchester, England in 1772 under the leadership of Mother Ann Lee, who moved the 9-person group to the United
States in 1774, where they built 19 communal settlements that attracted over the next century some 200,000 converts. Strict
believers in celibacy, Shakers maintained their numbers through conversion and adoption of orphans. Turnover was very high;
the group reached maximum size of about 6,000 full members in 1850, and now has four members left. [1] The Shakers

pejorative, was applied as a mocking description of their rituals of trembling, shouting, dancing, shaking, singing, and glossolalia
(speaking in strange and unknown languages). In 1774 Ann Lee pulled together nine of her followers from an English sect known
as the Wardleys, which she joined in 1758. They arrived on August 6, 1774 in New York City, and in 1776 the Shakers settled
in Niskayuna, New York (then in the township of Watervliet), near Albany, where a unique communal life began to develop and
thrive. Lee taught her followers that it is possible to attain perfect holiness. Like her predecessors the Wardleys, she taught
that the demonstrations of shaking and trembling were caused by sin being purged from the body by the power of the Holy Spirit,
purifying the worshiper. Distinctively, the followers of Mother Ann came to believe that she embodied all the perfections
of God in female form. [edit] First Shaker society The village was divided into groups or "families" that
were named for points on the compass rose. Each house was divided so that men and women did everything separately. They used
different staircases, doors and even sat on opposite sides of the room. The men and women were segregated to prevent them
from touching one another during the epileptic-like fits that they fell into during worship. The elders would watch over them
through the windows, to make sure no physical contact happened. A spiritualistic revival in the neighboring town of
New Lebanon sent many penitents to Watervliet, who accepted Mother Ann's teachings and organized in 1787 (before any formal
organization in Watervliet) the New Lebanon Society, the first Shaker Society, at New Lebanon (since 1861 called Mt. Lebanon),
Columbia county, New York. The Society at Watervliet, organized immediately afterwards, and the New Lebanon Society formed
a bishopric. The Watervliet members, as pacifists and non-jurors, had got into trouble during the American War of Independence;
in 1780 the Board of Elders were imprisoned, but all except Mother Ann rose were speedily set free, and she was released in
1781. [edit] Communalism under Joseph Meacham Between 1781 and 1783 the Mother, with chosen elders, visited
her followers in New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut. She died in Watervliet, New York on September 8, 1784. James Whittaker
was head of the Believers for three years. On his death he was succeeded by Joseph Meacham (1742–1796), who had been
a Baptist minister in Enfield, Connecticut, and had, second only to Mother Ann, the spiritual gift of revelation. Under his
rule and that of Lucy Wright (1760–1821), who shared the headship with him during his lifetime and then for twenty-five
years ruled alone, the organization of the Shakers and, particularly, a rigid communalism (religious communism), began. By
1793 property had been made a "consecrated whole" in the different communities, but a "noncommunal order" also had been established,
in which sympathizers with the principles of the Believers lived in families. The Shakers never forbade marriage, but refused
to recognize it as a Christian institution since the second coming in the person of Mother Ann, and considered it less perfect
than the celibate state. Shaker communities in this period were established in 1790 at Hancock, West Pittsfield, Massachusetts;
in 1791 at Harvard, Massachusetts; in 1792 at East Canterbury, New Hampshire (or Shaker Village); and in 1793 at Shirley,
Massachusetts; at Enfield, Connecticut (then also known as Shaker Station); at Enfield, New Hampshire (or "Chosen Vale");
at Tyringham, Massachusetts, where the Society was afterwards abandoned, its members joining the communities in Hancock and
Enfield; at New Gloucester, Maine (since 1890: "Sabbathday Lake"); and at Alfred, Maine, where, more than anywhere else among
the Shakers, spiritualistic healing of the sick was practiced. In Kentucky and Ohio, Shakerism entered after the Cane Ridge,
Kentucky revival of 1800–1801, and in 1805–1807 Shaker societies were founded at South Union, Logan county, Kentucky,
and Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, Mercer County, Kentucky. [edit] Expansion and contraction A prominent part in
this revival had been taken by Richard McNemar, a Presbyterian, who had broken with his Church because of his Arminian tendencies
and had established the quasi-independent Turtle Creek Church. McNemar was won by Shaker missionaries in 1805, and many of
his parishioners joined him to form the Union Village community in Turtlecreek Township, Warren County, Ohio, four miles west
of Lebanon. McNemar was a favorite of Lucy Wright, who gave him the spiritual name Eleazer Riotht, which he changed to Eleazer
Wright; he wrote The Kentucky Revival (Cincinnati, 1807), probably the earliest defense of Shakerism, and a poem, entitled
A Concise Answer to the General Inquiry Who or What are the Shakers (1808). In 1811 a community settled at Busro on
the Wabash in Indiana; but it was soon abandoned and its members went to Ohio and to Kentucky. In Ohio later communities were
formed at Watervliet, Montgomery and Greene counties, and at Whitewater, Butler and Hamilton counties. In New York, the communal
property at Sodus Bay was sold in 1828 and the community removed to Groveland, or Sonyea; their land here was sold to the
state and the few remaining members went to Watervliet. A short-lived community at Canaan, was merged into the communities
in Mount Lebanon (in New Lebanon) and Enfield, Connecticut. The peak was probably reached between 1830 and 1850 at
about 6000 members. The numerical strength of the sect decreased rapidly, probably from 4000 to 1000 from 1887 to 1908, and
there has been little effort made to plant new communities. The Mt. Lebanon Society in 1894 established a colony at Narcoossee,
Florida; the attempt of the Union Village Society in 1898 to plant a settlement at White Oak, Georgia, was unsuccessful. In
1910 the Union Village Society went into the hands of a receiver. At various times, the Shakers had eighteen major
communities in eight states and six smaller communities in Florida and Indiana. The city of Shaker Heights, Ohio, population
29,000, a suburb of Cleveland, was originally a Shaker settlement. Today there are very few remaining Shakers left.
They reside in Sabbathday Lake, Maine. [edit] Communal spiritual family The Shakers did not believe in procreation
so therefore had to adopt a child if they wanted one. Another way they could expand their community's population was to allow
converts into the Shaker society to live and function as one. When Shaker boys reached the age of twenty-one, they were given
the choice to leave the Shaker religion and go their own separate way or to continue on as a Shaker. The Shakers lived in
"families" sharing a large house with separate entrances for each family within the "family"; thus the families were exclusively
male or female — the sexes were segregated into separate living areas. The Shakers struggled with complex human
problems that have no simple answers, and they managed to set up and sustain a distinctive way of life with much appeal for
more than two hundred years. [edit] Revelations and visions A peculiar, intense kind of spirituality began
to develop under this unique arrangement. A period of spiritual manifestations among the Believers began in 1837 and lasted
through 1847. Children told of visits to cities in the spirit realm and brought messages to the community which they received
from Mother Ann. In 1838 the gift of tongues was manifested and sacred places were set aside in each community, with names
like Holy Mount; but in 1847 the spirits, after warning, left the Believers. The theology of the denomination is based on
the idea of the dualism of God: the creation of man as male and female "in our image" showing the bi-sexuality of the Creator;
in Jesus, born of a woman, the son of a Jewish carpenter, were the male manifestation of Christ and the first Christian Church;
and in Mother Ann, daughter of an English blacksmith, were the female manifestation of Christ and the second Christian Church
— she was the Bride ready for the Bridegroom, and in her the promises of the Second Coming were fulfilled. Adam's sin
was in sexual impurity; marriage is done away with in the body of the Believers in the Second Appearance, who must pattern
after the Kingdom in which there is no marriage or giving in marriage. The four virtues are virgin purity; Christian communism;
confession of sin, without which none can become Believers; and separation from the world. Their insistence on the bi-sexuality
of God and their reverence for Mother Ann have made them advocates of sex equality. Their spiritual directors are elders and
"eldresses," and their temporal guides are deacons and deaconesses in equal numbers. [edit] Culture
of work and further extremities The prescribed uniform costume with woman's neckerchief and cap, and the custom of men
wearing their hair long on the neck and cut in a straight bang on the forehead, still persist; but the women wear different
colors. The communism of the Believers was an economic success, and their cleanliness, honesty and frugality received the
highest praise. They made leather in New York for several years, but in selling herbs and garden seeds, in making "apple-sauce"
(at Shirley), in weaving linen (at Alfred), and in knitting underwear they did better work. "Do your work as though
you had a thousand years to live and as if you were to die tomorrow." "Put your hands to work, and your heart to God."

the peace. Early Shaker worship services were unstructured, loud, chaotic and emotional. However, later on, Shakers developed
precision dances and orderly rituals. The Shakers have also written thousands of religious songs. The meetinghouses
were painted white and unadorned, with shutters and carvings eschewed as worldly things. The Shakers believed in the value
of hard work and kept comfortably busy. Each member learned a craft and did chores. Mother Ann said, "Labor to make the way
of God your own; let it be your inheritance, your treasure, your occupation, your daily calling." [edit] Culture
and artifacts Shaker beliefs have generated a unique culture and ways of life that have enriched the cultural history

4, 2006 SARAH & ALEXANDER is an exciting, fast paced science fiction adventure, jam-packed with intrigue and romance.
This metaphoric saga, connected to the ancient mysteries of our planet, is an epoch spanning 72 years and crossing three continents..
It revolves around Manning's race against time to fulfill a prophecy set in motion by her ancient ancestors, the Guardians
of The Seed, Journet with Sarah to unlock many of your own truths. what parts were created to pull the plot together, that
can change. You have very strong character. The story of Thomas & Rose sets the stage very well. I'm curious who
you would cast as Sarah if it were to be filmed today, and who would you cast as young Rose (who I assume would also
play old Rose) and who you would cast as young Marie (who I assume would also play old Marie) I'm curious how you would cast
everyone, but those three in particular, also Miriam. There are a lot of subplots and backstoreis that would be very hard
to pull off in the screenplay such as the orgin of Niachi, which would be an interesting book unto itself. The Matrix guys
did something interesting where they got these Japanese Anime directors to produce seven short back story segements, called
the AniMatrix. Niacchi's story would play well as an Anmine. I'm really happy for you that this story that has been
in the works for so long is manifesting, Good luck on the continuing mission. Sarah and Alexander is about the bloodline
of the ancients. Therefore-whoever writes the story and whoever produces the movie would have to be part of this bloodline.

the evolution of human consciousness. If reality is a program, your story is the time travel subroutine that is needed in
human consciousness for the program to end. Once your book enters the public consciousness, it sets the seed for someone to
create the physical mechanism that will permit time travel to take place. Once time travel is achieved, the program has to
end because 3-D will no longer exist. If a physical being achieves time travel, memory is erased because the history will
no longer be contained. Containment of history is the only proof that time is linear. If time becomes non-linear, then space
separates from time and the frame of reference ceases to exist. This is how the fail safe is overridden. There is no second
chance. The very first successful experiment, when time is breached, the whole world will know it. Not to mention the rest

read it until a couple of days ago and was surprised that it was almost exactly like my life story. This will help
explain what has been happening to and "Mother" Ann Lee...... She was to be The First President of The United States
in 1776 and was over looked but had another chance in this life time 1977 and was taken back in time and life has turned out
